Lakshmi Arunkumar turns match for under-16 title

Lakshmi Arunkumar bounced back from an indifferent start to beat Tanushri Pandey 0-6, 6-3, 7-5 for the under-16 girls title in the AITA Super series junior tennis tournament at the CLTA Complex on Friday.

Lakshmi made the under-18 doubles final with Sanvi Ahluwalia, but was beaten by Vanshika Choudhary and Sandeepti Singh Rao.

It was a double crown for Sandeepti as she won the singles title, when Kaavya Sawhney retired after two sets. Sandeepti had lost the first set in an extended tie-break 11-13, but bounced back strongly to take the second set 6-1. Kaavya was unable to continue thereafter, owing to exhaustion under high humidity.
