NEW DELHI, OCT. 16:
Salsa Aher and Sarah Dev will represent India in the WTA Future Stars under-16 and under-14 events in Singapore from Tuesday.
The two have been accompanied by coach Radhika Tulpule Kanitkar, for the event that features 48 players from 21 countries of the Asia-Pacific region.
The event, held annually in the last few years, gives the chance for young girls to have a feel of the WTA year-end championship and mix with the top stars of the game.
The matches will be played at the Kallang Tennis Centre, and move to the Singapore Indoor Stadium for the finals.
In the under-14 event, Sarah Dev finds herself clubbed with Maggie Pearce, Chen Mengyi, Delilah Pathummakuronen, Trisha Mulani and Im Hee, in the Karolina group.
In the under-16 section, Salsa Aher figures in the Caroline group, along with Brookle Maasi, Skylar Wan, Micaela Lai, Tammy Tan and Kwon Jimin
NEW DELHI, OCT. 14:
It was high quailty tennis by the future young stars that warmed the hearts of the sparse gathering as Mann Maulik Shah and Tanisha Kashyap won the boys and girls titles respectively in the under-16 section of the Fenesta National tennis championship that concluded at the DLTA Complex here on Saturday.
It was a fitting climax to the fortnight-long exercise, as the tall and strongly built Mann smacked the ball into the orbit in celebration, after beating State mate from Gujarat Kevin Mrugesh Patel 6-2, 6-2.
Coached by Jignesh Raval, who had the distinction of earlier capturing the under-18 girls title through Vaidehi Chaudhari, Mann Shah played power tennis, albeit without facing much challenge this day.
The 15-year-old Tanisha exhibited a strong game and a sound temperament as she tackled the gutsy Prinkle Singh, who had beaten her in the semifinals in the last edition.
‘’Tanisha played a much improved game today’’, conceded Prinkle.
Coached diligently by Vishaal Uppal and guided admirably by her mother Ruby Kalita, it was three weeks of superb performance in the international and national circuit for Tanisha, who showed the energy, both physical and mental, at the end for a memorable climax.
After the ITF grade-2 junior event in Beijing, Tanisha had competed for a fortnight at the DLTA, reaching the semifinals of the women’s and under-18 sections and winning the under-18 girls doubles title with Sravya Shivani. She lost the doubles final this week in partnership with Prerna Vichare, after having looked good for a double crown.
In the under-14 boys event, Ajay Malik defended his title after a fighting performance in three tough sets against Krishan Hooda. Interestingly, Ajay had beaten Krishan in three sets in the second round of the last edition.
Sandeepti Singh Rao had a relatively easier time as she outplayed Rutuja Chaphalkar for the loss of two games for the girls under-14 title.
Olympian hockey player Rupinder Pal Singh was the chief guest and presented the prizes along with the Chairman and Managing Director of DCM Shriram Group, Ajay Shriram.
The results (finals):
